📚 In-Depth Research Profile
Mechanism of Action
Tesamorelin is a full-length GHRH(1-44) analog with a trans-3-hexenoic acid modification at the N-terminus, providing enhanced stability and resistance to enzymatic degradation. It is the only GHRH analog specifically studied and approved for visceral fat reduction.
Therapeutic Uses
- •HIV-associated lipodystrophy: FDA-approved as Egrifta® for reduction of excess visceral abdominal fat in HIV-infected patients with lipodystrophy.
- •MASLD/NASH (liver fat): The T-LIFT trial demonstrated 37% reduction in hepatic fat fraction.
- •Visceral fat reduction: Specifically targets metabolically dangerous visceral adipose tissue.
- •Cognitive function: The STAY trial showed significant improvements in executive function and verbal memory.
Empirical Evidence
Falutz J et al. (JAMA 2007) — 18% visceral fat reduction vs 2% increase with placebo at 26 weeks. Fourman LT et al. (Lancet Diabetes Endocrinol 2020) — T-LIFT: 37% liver fat reduction. STAY trial — Improved executive function composite scores. FDA-approved with comprehensive Phase 3 safety data.
